Main Event Review: AJ Lee and Dean Ambrose Put Their Titles On The Line

Main Event is live on the WWE Network once again, more attempts at stress testing the Network prior to WrestleMania.
Curtis Axel pre-taped promo/Los Matadores vs. Rybaxel
Like his partner Ryback did last night, Axel used a pre-taped promo to announce that he would be entering the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania XXX. Both members of Rybaxel needed a spot at WrestleMania. Interesting to see if this team is still together after WrestleMania, or if they can use it to start a feud with another tag team.
Los Matadores get the win with a roll-up on Axel, with a little help from El Torito. I didn’t quite understand why Primo and Epico got repackaged in the first place, but it makes a lot of sense. They were heels, and they were repackaged to make them faces because their high-flying style is great for their face personas.
AJ Lee promo/AJ Lee vs. Natalya for the Divas Championship
AJ says she is bored because she has no competition for her title. She then promises to hold the Divas Championship forever. Good promo from AJ, she’s very good at what she does, it’s a shame she never gets a chance to do it.
AJ wins a really good match with the Black Widow submission. These two are the best in-ring Divas on the roster as long as Paige is in NXT and Emma isn’t really being used as a wrestler. Every time it seems like AJ is being setup to lose her title, she finds a way to retain. It’s very unlikely she gets through WrestleMania with the title, but it will be interesting to see how she finally does lose it.
Santino and Emma’s First Date
Well, this went about as poorly as you would think. It was a complete disaster as their reservations fell through, but thankfully, Santino had a friend in catering to hook them up. Santino ended up destroying the table while trying to get pepper for Emma. Santino ended up leaving dejected, while Emma cried and vowed to never ask for pepper agian. In the right environment, Santino is really funny, and Emma has proven to be really entertaining as well. This was really short, which was good because if it was any longer it probably would have ruined the whole thing.
Dean Ambrose vs. Mark Henry for the United States Championship
Good match from Ambrose and Henry. I think the best thing The Shield ever did was not accompany each other to the ring for their title wins and initial defenses. This match suffered from Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins’ involvement. It’s okay that they were at ringside, but with everything that’s gone on with The Shield recently, that should have been much more of an emphasis in this match. Good work from Henry especially, he really made Ambrose look very good.
Overall Impression
Really good show. Both title matches were very good, as was AJ’s promo, and the Santino-Emma skit. I think people will watch Main Event if they have put on shows like this every week. If the titles weren’t on the line, this show would have been just as good, so weekly outputs like this are very doable.
