Raw Retro Review: Episode 5: 16-Man Battle Royal
By Mike Smith
The fifth edition of Monday Night Raw had Vince McMahon on commentary with either “Macho Man” Randy Savage of Rob Bartlett, whichever one had the second working microphone, as they seemed to be having difficulties all night.

Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake promo/Ted DiBiase promo
Beefcake responded to Ted DiBiase’s challenge from the previous week. He said that he couldn’t wait to prove to DiBiase and everybody else that he was 100% ready.
DiBiase then said that getting back in the ring would be the biggest mistake of Beefcake’s life. Jimmy Hart tried again to persuade DiBiase not to enter the match, but DiBiase wouldn’t listen.
This match would take place later in the night, this was a good way to build some hype for it.
The Steiner Brothers vs. Glen Ruth and Bobby Who
Scott Steiner got the win when he held Who on his shoulders, allowing his brother Rick to hit a bulldog from the top rope. The Steiners were a really fun tag team, especially at this point in time.
WrestleMania IX Report
Mean Gene said that WWF Champion Bret Hart, if he would be able to hold onto his championship, would take on Royal Rumble winner Yokozuna in the WrestleMania main event.
Mean Gene also announced two more matches that had just been announced, with The Undertaker taking on Giant Gonzales, and Crush taking on Doink the Clown. They were taking a lot of steps toward WrestleMania, considering it was only February 15th.
Yokozuna vs. Ross Greenberg
Yoko won with the Bonzai Drop. Another extremely quick win, and it would be hard to expect anything else for the man set to challenge for the WWF Championship at WrestleMania.
WWF Superstars Report
Lord Alfred Hayes recapped the Yokozuna-Hacksaw Jim Duggan match from the past weekend. In that match, Duggan was the first Superstar to knock Yoko off his feet in singles competition. Duggan celebrated that fact with the crowd, but Yoko got his revenge via salt, and won the match with the Bonzai Drop, and hit another one after the match, with the US flag draped over Duggan’s body.
They the showed a pre-taped promo w/ Yoko and Mr. Fuji, in which they mocked Duggan. Good promo, trying to minimize Duggan’s feat of getting Yoko off his feet.
16-Man Battle Royal
Razor Ramon won the battle royal thanks to Giant Gonzales coming in and last eliminating Tito Santana and Tatanka, while Razor escaped under the bottom rope. This was an unremarkable battle royal that only existed for the final moments, specifically the last two eliminations.
“Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase vs. Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake
Beefcake won by DQ when Irwin R. Schyster hit Beefcake with his briefcase. After the match, both members of Money, Inc. were beating up Beefcake, while their manager, Jimmy Hart, tried to stop them. Finally, IRS got fed up with Hart, and then put the briefcase to Beefcake’s face. Hart then ran in and slid to Beefcake’s aid. Beefcake was writhing around on the mat in pain, and had to be taken out on a stretcher.
Overall Impresion
Good show that ended with a huge angle. The announce team hyped Money, Inc. being in action for the next episode, so it should be interesting to see if Brutus Beefcake had a response, or maybe even his friend, Hulk Hogan.
