Sting Re-Surfaces With Cryptic Date Tweet and Picture
By Matt Perri
Back in early 2014, the Internet was a-buzz with the news of Sting finally appearing in WWE.
Several sources claimed that he had signed a WWE Legends Contract and that he would be making appearances to sign autographs and talk to fans.
A few others claimed that he would be facing The Undertaker at Wrestlemania XXX. And even more claimed that he would be on RAW soon to hype the match…
Then…the talk just kinda fizzled.
Sting didn’t appear anywhere save for reports that he was seen in New Orleans signing autographs during Wrestlemania Axxess. The Undertaker took on Brock Lesnar and lost, unceremoniously, and life went on without a single sign that anything said in the last few months was true.
Fans still held out hope that Sting would be in the WWE Hall of Fame for 2015 or that he would be facing The Undertaker in Santa Clara at Wrestlemania 31. But seeing as though both men haven’t exactly aged gracefully and The Undertaker is so beat up as to be useless for any future fight, that’s mostly in doubt.
But, today, something strange happened…Sting re-surfaced with the above photo and spoke up on Twitter, leaving a very cryptic (albeit exciting) message:
It doesn’t take a mathematician to figure out that July 14th, 2014 is a Monday…
That part of me that doesn’t want to get my hopes up is screaming at me NOT to write what I’m about to write. But that’s what I do here at The Daily DDT. I sit down and pull up a blank blog field and I say things like “What if Santino Marella beat Brock Lesnar and Triple H in a Triple Threat Match at Hell in a Cell” and you clap your hands with glee and say, “Yeah, that would rule”…and then you go back to slurping your coffee or petting your cat or whatever you do during the day.
That said, is it possible that we might see Sting finally make his WWE debut on July 14th, 2014 on Monday Night RAW?
Of course it is. Anything’s possible.
But, if not, what might this mean?
As Jim Ross recently blogged, Sting IS appearing as DLC in WWE 2K15…so, it could stand to reason that an official announcement to that effect could come on that date.
But the game doesn’t come out until October. There’d be no point in divulging that info now when you could do it at a much later date closer to the release of the game…so it HAS to be a RAW appearance…right?
Not quite.
It could be that The WWE Network is honoring Sting in a new documentary and this is the date of release of the documentary. The Network has been busy trying to push subscriber numbers up with the addition of The Monday Night Wars, re-runs of Total Divas, and the first 13 episodes of the late, great Saturday Night’s Main Event.
This could be another show push.
But…if it’s NOT…then he’s gonna be on RAW…RIGHT?!
It could very well be…but don’t get your hopes up.
It reminds me of the famous segment on WCW Nitro where Sting appeared to the nWo after turning his back on WCW during the big cage match.
He said, “The only thing that’s sure about The Stinger…is nothin’s for sure.”
Let’s just go with that.
