At Survivor Series 2012, alongside Roman Reigns, Ambrose and Rollins made their debut as part of a three-man team called The Shield. They took out Ryback in order to help then-WWE Champion CM Punk retain his title.
At the next pay-per-view, TLC, they had their first WWE match, and beat the three-man team of Ryback, Kane and Daniel Bryan, not a bad start at all.
As a team, they took out everyone and everything that stood in their way, including getting a 2-0 record at WrestleMania. It all came to an end, the night after one of their biggest wins, a clean sweep in a No Holds Barred Elimination Match against Evolution at Payback.
The next night on Raw, after Batista quit, effectively ending Evolution, Triple H called on “Plan B”, which was Rollins nailing Reigns in the back with a chair, then taking out Ambrose. That night ended with Ambrose and Reigns beaten, and Rollins standing tall over them, with Triple H and Randy Orton.
Since then, at Ambrose’s expense, Rollins became Mr. Money in the Bank. However, he has already failed multiple times to cash-in the contract, thanks to attacks from Ambrose. This rivalry is one of the hottest in WWE right now, and now the fans get to see a match they’ve wanted for a long time, as these two slug it out at Battleground.
Let’s get to the predictions from Michael Dunlap, Lance Augustine, Jordan Campbell, Marcus Hagness, Matt Perri, Benjamin Raven, and Mike Smith. Please share your predictions with us in the comment section.
Michael’s Take: Though I like Ambrose better, Rollins needs the win (or would be hurt by the loss) more. They’ve got to keep him as a legit challenger for the championship, so expect a brutal match that ends with Rollins pulling off a difficult win.
Lance’s Take: What a great feud. I love the work of both men, and the chemistry is there. My only hope is that they get adequate time to show what they can do. I feel like this has the potential of a great story, with both men exchanging wins. Ill go with Ambrose with a win here, but I see these two going at it again at SummerSlam.
Jordan’s Take: This is the match that many have been waiting for since Rollins turned his back on The Shield. Both Ambrose and Rollins are among the top two young stars in the WWE. It goes without saying that the WWE Universe wants Ambrose to exact revenge on Rollins this Sunday. I imagine this match running similar to the match that Brock Lesnar and CM Punk had at SummerSlam last year. Rollins, the heel, will win but Ambrose will get his revenge. I expect Ambrose to attack Rollins after the match, thus eliminating the possibility of Rollins cashing in the Money in the Bank contract on Sunday.
Marcus’ Take: Seth Rollins has really bucked the trend of MITB winners in recent memories. He hasn’t gone on a losing streak since winning the briefcase and has been teased to cash-in on Cena every week. I see Ambrose defeating Rollins in this match-up and these two continuing their shenanigans in the main event. Rollins will attempt to cash-in on Cena again and Ambrose will rain on his parade.
Matt’s Take: This is gonna be a great match and the one I’m looking forward to the most, mainly because it’s not a feud that’s randomly thrown together (Jericho/Wyatt) or an arbitrary main event (the Fatal 4-Way). These two are so evenly-skilled. Rollins is intense, Ambrose is nuts, and the two guys hate each other. I expect close falls, tons of counters, and a really good match. I have a feeling, however, that Rollins wins this match and the two re-match at SummerSlam where Ambrose ends up taking that before Rollins ends the night at that event, cashing in the briefcase.
Benjamin’s Take: The first of many matches between these two, and I am extremely excited to see how they match up in the ring against each other. Both of these two are rolling and deserve to be at the top of the card with their former buddy, Roman Reigns.
I would be surprised to see Ambrose win this first one, as the big payoff match would be at SummerSlam. I expect this one to be fast and hard-hitting, but see it ending in count out or DQ fashion to build the feud up even more.
Mike’s Take: Wow, I really can’t wait to see this match. The only thing that could make it better would be if Roman Reigns was involved to make that Triple Threat Match we all dreamed about when The Shield were at their hottest. This will do, though.
I think Rollins gets the win here. So far, Rollins has avoided the “Money in the Bank Curse”, which usually causes the holder of the briefcase to lose almost every match they’re in. I expect that trend to continue.
We’ll get to my predictions for how these guys factor into the WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match, when we preview that match, but you can bet that they will show themselves.
