WWE Battleground Predictions: WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match: John Cena vs. Randy Orton vs. Kane vs. Roman Reigns in a Fatal 4-Way Match

This Sunday, the main event of WWE Battleground will feature four of WWE’s biggest stars in free-for-all for it’s biggest title.

More from WWE

John Cena puts his WWE World Heavyweight Championship on the line against Randy Orton, Kane and Roman Reigns, three of the seven men he beat for the title last month at Money in the Bank.

It’s become evident that Triple H has a plan in putting this match together, he wants Reigns to take out Cena, Kane to take out Reigns, and Orton to take advantage of that and win the title. If that’s not going like they hope, Fatal 4-Way rules make for no disqualifications, so Triple H and Seth Rollins can get involved whenever they want. That is “Plan A”, but as we all know, Triple H always has a “Plan B”.

“Plan B” comes in the form of Rollins as Mr. Money in the Bank. If Cena or Reigns were to win the title, The Authority would surely do their best to create a successful cash-in opportunity for Rollins to make sure that they walk out with the title in their power, but if Rollins looks to cash-in, look for Dean Ambrose to not be far behind.

Sidenote before we get to our predictions: there has been a lot of “leaked” material that puts Cena in a SummerSlam match with Brock Lesnar. That has led many to believe that Cena will walk out with the title at Battleground. Look at that poster and video closely, it never mentions the match being for the title, or Cena as champion. That could easily be changed, but for now, that’s how it stands.

There are a lot of moving parts in this match, so let’s get to the predictions from Michael Dunlap, Lance Augustine, Jordan Campbell, Marcus Hagness, Matt Perri, Benjamin Raven, and Mike Smith, and please leave your predictions in the comment section.

Michael’s Take: Sticking with Cena here. Kane and Orton will have a feud soon and Reigns just isn’t ready to carry the company.

Lance’s Take: WWE has been on fire lately with their programming, but after a poster flop revealed the probable SummerSlam main event, I think we all know this is going to be a Cena win. Although Reigns has been on fire, there will be no upset here. Look for an Orton/Kane implosion, and for Cena and Reigns to have a good bit of time displaying their maneuvers. I think after a Cena win, one of two things will happen. Either Seth Rollins does another cash in attempt, or Brock Lesnar shows up to set up the SummerSlam PPV match.

Jordan’s Take: WWE continues to tease the idea that Roman Reigns is close to being a champions. But, who are we kidding, Reigns will not be a champion until next April. That leaves John Cena, Kane, and Randy Orton, Kane, at this point in his career, is simply not the type of character that can hold the championship belt. That leaves Orton and Cena. Kane and Orton have been at odds in recent weeks and I suspect that Kane will cost Orton his shot at winning on Sunday. Meaning, that leaves Cena as the one that will be winning the title on Sunday night.

You hear that? Brock Lesnar is coming.

Marcus’ Take: Don’t have much commentary for that match, it will be entertaining since it’s a Fatal Four Way but I see Cena winning the match, probably getting a pinfall on Kane after a multitude of finishers near the end of the match. Need Cena to look good so he can hand the belt to Lesnar next month. Watch for the next installment of Rollins attempting to cash in and Dean Ambrose attacking him like Bam Margera when he attacked Phil on the toilet during his days on Jackass.

Matt’s Take: CENAWINSLOL. Seriously, Kane and Orton aren’t winning this and it’s too early for Reigns since he can’t really do much past 5 minutes. Plus we had that little spoiler video “leak” saying that Cena and Brock would face off for the title at SummerSlam, so there we are.

Benjamin’s Take: I would be completely shocked to see anyone other than John Cena come out of this one as the winner. The Kane and Orton dynamic makes it interesting, but ultimately I see a Reigns vs. Orton feud coming out of this one for SummerSlam.

Cena wins with all the odds stacked against him, because that’s never happened before. I’d love to see Brock Lesnar interfere in this one to give some actual context to his inevitable feud for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Mike’s Take: There’s a lot to dissect in this match.

So, John Cena is going to fight Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam, that seems like a given at this point, and it should be. However, there’s growing suspicion that Cena will lose the title before that match comes around. I am starting to jump on that bandwagon, and there’s only one man who can win the title at Battleground, other than Cena, and that’s Roman Reigns. WrestleMania Moments are important, but they can only happen once a year, sometimes moments need to happen at the right time, and this feels like the time for Reigns.

The fan in me wants Rollins to successfully cash-in the briefcase on Reigns, in order to setup a Triple Threat Match between the former Shield members at SummerSlam, but that won’t happen.

Final prediction: Roman Reigns walks out with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
