Dolph Ziggler defeats The Miz for the Intercontinental Championship

Mike Smith’s Take:

I’m a huge Miz fan, and I know that he certainly has a lot of talent. Miz can, and has, put on some really good matches, but put him in the ring with Ziggler, and there’s a chance for something really special.

I knew this one had potential, but it exceeded my expectations. These two had a very good match. The sequence with Ziggler hitting the Fameasser, Miz popping right up, hitting the Skull Crushing Finale, and Ziggler kicking out, was absolutely flawless.

Ziggler’s win was shocking to many for a couple of reasons, but the Staples Center went nuts for it.

The only knock I have was that it was too short.

Rob Wolkenbrod’s Take:

I was very surprised with the result.

The Miz only stayed Intercontinental Champion for a month and it ended in a blink of the eye. He wasn’t played up as a strong champion, but he was seeing plenty of TV time to sell his gimmick. This could be a sign that WWE may not be fully invested in his Hollywood character.

On the bright side, Dolph Ziggler is finally getting the push that the WWE Universe has been busting for. His ring work gave him credibility, but now that he has a championship around his waist, he has a greater place on the roster instead of being in the role of making his foes look better.

I can’t see Dolph losing the title in a re-match at Night of Champions. If Miz fades away after this, let’s see who steps to the plate. Maybe there could even be a title unification with Sheamus?
