Randy Orton (If Brock Lesnar retains)

Randy Orton had one of the dullest title reigns in recent memory. WWE gave him a golden opportunity to be in the picture for the WWE Championship and then the WWE World Heavyweight Championship from the end of SummerSlam through Wrestlemania XXX and he flopped. Whether that was more from him or poorly scripted dialogues is something we’ll never know completely, but from what we saw on TV, he didn’t deliver.

Believe it or not, though, Orton could be a fresh challenger for Lesnar’s belt, if he retains it.

  • The Authority stable needs some type of storyline shake-up. Their story has revolved around Seth Rollins and that’s fine, but Kane is a very stale character and Triple H hasn’t been on Raw and SmackDown consistently over the past month. What about if Orton turned on the Authority and finally got the one-on-one rematch he’s been pushing for since April? He could look strong coming out of a Night of Champions victory over Chris Jericho, go on Raw the next night, and plead with the Authority to give him a title shot after what he did the night before, only to get his pleas shot down. He could then approach Paul Heyman and see if he will agree to a match at HIAC for the belt.

The issue here, like Big Show and really, any other challenger to Lesnar, is that it will be very hard for the fans to buy into RKO having a legitimate chance at winning. The booking here for over the course of four weeks would be interesting.

    Speaking of Authority members…
