WWE Rumors: Could Brock Lesnar Be Gone Until 2015?

More from Brock Lesnar

After the Night of Champions pay-per-view on September 21, no one knew the status of Brock Lesnar for this month’s Hell in a Cell PPV. He wasn’t on the post-NOC Raw as expected, but it was possible that he could return to defend his WWE World Heavyweight Championship at HIAC against John Cena to close out their best of three series. This doesn’t seem likely anymore with Lesnar not being mentioned much on the past two Raws and the storyline going in a different direction with Cena and Dean Ambrose wanting to get their hands on Seth Rollins.

There was some thought that Lesnar could return at Survivor Series, one of WWE’s four big PPVs. Now that may not be likely, either, according to Wrestling Inc.

"Brock Lesnar is not currently advertised for any pay-per-views or RAWs through the end of the year. It should be noted that Lesnar’s other appearances this year were advertised months in advance. Lesnar has worked four pay-per-views so far this year, which is the most PPVs he’s worked in a calendar year since he returned to the company in 2012. With no real program for him and his hefty price tag, it remains to be seen if Lesnar will defend the title before The Royal Rumble in January."

The very interesting thing here is that there were reports of him signing a new contract about a month ago that would let WWE schedule him for as many Raw shows and PPVs while champion. While that is probably still the case, WWE also doesn’t feel that they need the WWE WHC defended at every show with the WWE Network in place, according to the Wrestling News Observer.

"According to the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Lesnar will not be a part of “Hell In A Cell” thanks in-part-to the WWE Network. With WWE’s main focus now being on their PPV events streaming through their Over-The-Top service, they feel like it doesn’t matter if the major championship is showcased on the card."

While it isn’t necessary to have the title defended every thirty days, this may seem like another slap in the face to the fans who have already accused WWE (more specifically, Vince McMahon) of not caring about what they think. Now that the company has six month commitments from most fans (unless they bought a month-by-month package), they have everyone’s money so they don’t need to convince everyone to spend $50-60 on a monthly PPV anymore. Putting a world title match on the card was usually what WWE used as the bait to pull fans in.

Keep an eye on the PPV cards for the next few months as well as the WrestleMania card in March. Since WWE will have money commitments from hundreds of thousands of fans, could they decrease the quality of the card for the biggest show of the year? Or would that be too ridiculous for them to do?
