Sami Zayn and William Regal backstage
Zayn went in to Regal’s office to thank him for the opportunity to speak to the NXT Universe.
Regal had an interesting reaction, as he didn’t seem to have a problem with Zayn speaking, but he didn’t seem like he would be happy with what Zayn was about to say.
Sami Zayn, Adrian Neville and William Regal promo
Zayn came out to talk about his title match last week with Neville. He quickly asked Neville to join him in the ring.
Zayn talked about the mounting frustration from his failures to win the title. He said that if their friendship, or what’s left of it, means anything to Neville, he will give Zayn one more shot. Zayn said if he can’t win this one, he will leave wrestling, because if he can’t beat Neville for the title then he doesn’t deserve to be in NXT.
Neville, in classic heel fashion, said that he would love to give Zayn the match, and that he would give Zayn as many shots as he wants, but that it’s not up to him, it’s up to Regal. That’s when Regal came out.
Regal granted Zayn the title match, and said that it’s a match worth of the next live special on the WWE Network: NXT TakeOver: R Evolution.
Neville accepted that, but said that he couldn’t allow Zayn to put his career on the line, and that Zayn has nothing to prove.
Zayn said it doesn’t matter how Neville feels, and that he’s leaving if he loses. Zayn also said that it’s his life, and that he’s living it. He said that he knows what he needs to do and what he needs to prove, and that he can only accomplish what he needs to do by winning the title.
This was a really good promo. It was easy to feel every word that Zayn says. He says everything with plenty of charisma and emotion, the same charisma and emotion that gets a crowd invested in his matches.
Neville is good, but I feel he should be playing up his heel persona a tad bit more. He’s not heel yet, but it’s something they’re sort of toying with, and I’d like to see Neville play into it a little more.
