WWE TLC Predictions: Erick Rowan vs. Big Show (Stairs Match)
By Mike Smith
This Sunday, at WWE TLC, Erick Rowan takes on Big Show in the first-ever Stairs Match.
The problems between these two started when they teamed together on Team Cena at WWE Survivor Series. That night, Show turned on his team and knocked out John Cena. The next night, when Show went to the ring to let the world know that he wouldn’t apologize, Rowan came out, because he doesn’t like bullies, and he thinks Show is a bully. The next week, Show attacked Rowan with the ring steps, and this match was announced the next night.
Let’s get to some predictions from Rob Wolkenbrod, Callum Wiggins, Carl Gac, and Mike Smith:
More from Daily DDT
- It’s time for Adam Cole and MJF to drop the ROH tag team titles
- Tom Lawlor talks MLW return, AEW opportunity, CM Punk’s WWE return and more
- Eddie Kingston stands to gain the most from the AEW Continental Classic
- Trish Stratus on WWE NXT would help elevate that women’s division
- Randy Orton signs with SmackDown to go after The Bloodline
Rob’s Take: This one probably won’t display a ton of wrestling as it will with the steel stairs, since that’s the gimmick of the match. It will be hard-hitting and a fun one to watch that will probably see Erick Rowan go over and continue his run as a mid-card babyface.
Rob’s Prediction: Erick Rowan
Callum’s Take: This is another match that could go either way as far as I’m concerned. Big Show has again embraced the dark side after his traitorous actions at Survivor Series, and Erick Rowan has displayed his distaste for the Giant’s actions. This has resulted in the first Steel Stairs match, and likely the last considering even for TLC that is an absurd gimmick. Whether these two can make it an entertaining match is anybody’s guess, but this will probably prove to be a one-time thing.
Personally, I would hope the WWE booking team does what is right and gives Rowan the victory. Big Show is not being heavily pushed at the moment, and will always have a cushy spot just outside the main event. Whereas Rowan has been showing in-ring improvement, has unique entrance music and is gradually becoming a fan favorite. Although the faces have been dominating the results thus far on the card, it makes more sense for Rowan to win.
Callum’s Prediction: Erick Rowan
Carl’s Take: Rowan is definitely building into a great baby face, while Show is again struggling as the heel after yet again turning his back on a partner at SS (yawn). I hope that Rowan is allowed to get the win here to build up to a good showing at the Royal Rumble next month. The stairs stipulation is interesting, it’s certainly showed on TV since the announcement, with many matches featuring some form of stairs bump.
Carl’s Prediction: Erick Rowan
Mike’s Take: I can’t imagine this being a good match. While, I think Show will do a good job of building this match in a way that makes Rowan look good, but the match won’t be good. These guys are way too big and not nearly agile enough to put on any sort of entertaining match.
I think Show is going to pick up the win. Show will take advantage of the inexperienced Rowan, then Rowan will have a big moment in the Royal Rumble by eliminating Show, then maybe they have another match at WWE Fast Lane.
Mike’s Prediction: Big Show
