#7: John Cena vs Umaga – Royal Rumble 2007
Alright, alright, I know, John Cena sucks….I know…I know. Well honestly, he really doesn’t. Is he the best technical wrestler? No. Is he a bit lame at times? Yep. Do the older WWE fans resent the favoritism WWE creative have handed him over the years? Yes again. But can he perform brilliantly when he’s paired up with another bright star? Yes. Hell yes. Umaga was one of those bright stars, and their Last Man Standing Match at the 07 Rumble proved that. Although Umaga’s WWE career would end abruptly due to drug issues and his life tragically ended from the same, there is no doubt that he and Cena competed this night in one of the more violent matches of the last 10 years.
It was a back and forth brawl with big spot after big spot. Cena’s front suplex to Umaga on to the ring steps looked about as painful as it sounded. And the sight of watching Umaga repeatedly punch the opened up head of Cena was a throwback to the heels of old. In the end it was, of course, Cena who picked up the win but it was the cult following of Umaga that ensued afterwards that was the real winner of the evening.
RIP big man.
