WWE Royal Rumble Predictions: The New Age Outlaws vs. The Ascension

facebooktwitterreddit

At WWE Royal Rumble, The Ascension will battle The New Age Outlaws, as they look for revenge for the attack on Monday Night Raw.

When The Ascension crashed an nWo reunion, they were interrupted by JBL, who brought out Ron Simmons for an APA reunion, and they were quickly followed by The New Age Outlaws.

Road Dogg and Billy Gunn took The Ascension out, but left Viktor in the ring, leaving him vulnerable to a Clothesline from Hell.

Will The Ascension get their revenge on Sunday? Jack Jorgensen, Rob Wolkenbrod, Jordan Campbell, Brian Rzeppa, Callum Wiggins, Becca Cook, Carl Gac, Tim Sherry, Chris Schubert, and Mike Smith have some predictions:

Jack’s Take: This is a tricky one, because I can’t figure out whether this will be a legit program between these two teams or if The Outlaws were brought back to give a rub due to WWE being in panic mode over the way they botched their debut on the main roster. I’m gonna go with the rub part and The Ascension get a somewhat easy win.

Jack’s Prediction: The Ascension

Rob’s Take: There isn’t any doubt with this one. The Ascension will win and move onto other WWE tag teams.

Rob’s Prediction: The Ascension

Jordan’s Take: The Old Aged Outlaws will put The Ascension over and hopefully that puts an end to the token matches for the Outlaws.

Jordan’s Prediction: The Ascension

Brian’s Take: After an entertaining segment on RAW (many will disagree with that statement), The Ascension will be looking for revenge at the Royal Rumble. It was 7 on 2 for them on Monday night, so this 2 on 2 matchup will throw the odds more in their favor. I’m not incredibly impressed with them to this point, but this is there chance to sink or swim as WWE competitors.

Given The New Age Outlaws’ age and very part-time schedule, I don’t see any scenario that doesn’t involve The Ascension coming out on top. More than likely they’ll attack JBL after the match, which should only result in even more momentum moving forward.

Brian’s Prediction: The Ascension

Callum’s Take: This match will likely delight a number of fans of the Attitude Era, as two of its favorite sons return to match up against the newest tandem on the roster. This time last year, The New Age Outlaws shocked the wrestling world by becoming WWE Tag Team Champions against the Rhodes Brothers, showing they still had gas left in their respective tanks. But, they now face a team that have proclaimed themselves the most dominant in history, The Ascension.

If I’m completely honest, I’m not sold on the latest tandem. Their ring-work is uninspiring, their promos are sloppy and whoever decided to give them face paint and body armor has taken away the individuality they showed in NXT, their only redeeming feature. Still, they will win this match, as it makes no sense for the veterans to earn a victory, as they have little to gain. The Outlaws won’t likely be champions again and will simply be here for nostalgia’s sake and to put the new guys over well. The Ascension will provide one of their typically brisk encounters, moving on towards their unfortunately inevitable run with the WWE Tag Team Championships.

Callum’s Prediction: The Ascension

Becca’s Take: The Ascension debuted on the main roster less than a month ago, squashed local wrestlers for a couple of weeks and suddenly are in a match against one of the most well-known tag teams of all time? Very confusing booking which can’t be good for the future of Viktor and Konnor.

I’ll say that The Ascension will take the victory over the New Age Outlaws, because why not make it even more confusing?

Becca’s Prediction: The Ascension

Carl’s Take: After they were destroyed by numerous teams during Raw Reunion, this match was set up with one of the best tag teams in WWE (WWF) history. So far, the former NXT favourites have basically beat local jobbers and tried to rubbish the names of numerous legendary tag teams, but have they bitten off more than they can chew?

It’s good to see The Outlaws back again, but this ain’t 1998 any more. I love a bit of nostalgia, but I’d rather see The Ascension put into a feud for the tag titles, not relegated to something that’s card filler.

Konnor and Viktor need the win here, they need to dominate the match or they will be forgotten by the fans, and will undo all the good work they did in NXT. having said that I think The Outlaws will get the W and set off on a feud that leads both teams towards WrestleMania.

Carl’s Prediction: The Ascension

Tim’s Take: The Ascension will get revenge for the beating they took at Raw and get a clean win here. Even if the new gimmick isn’t working for these guys, Creative is going to give them a shot. What’s a better way to do that than beating a couple of legends?

Tim’s Prediction: The Ascension

Chris’ Take: The Ascension will make their PPV debut at the Royal Rumble facing what some could call a surprise in The New Age Outlaws. After Raw Reunion on Monday, many wondered if Vince McMahon was burying his newly called up NXT talent. But after this match was announced, it became clear what the vision was. The Ascension will get revenge for Monday, and will begin their rise to the top of the tag team scene. They also could go after JBL at the Rumble or Raw the next night.

Chris’ Prediction: The Ascension

Mike’s Take: I think there’s definitely a chance that The Outlaws pull this one out.

That being said, I don’t think that they will. This should be part of a bigger angle with The Ascension, but against multiple old tag teams, not just The Outlaws.

The Ascension will probably get a win over The Outlaws that makes The Shield jealous.
