WWE Fastlane Predictions: Rusev (C) vs. John Cena for the United States Championship

facebooktwitterreddit

At WWE Fastlane, John Cena is going to try and take the United States Championship away from the anti-American, Rusev.

This rivalry started after WWE Royal Rumble on the Fallout show, when Cena was talking about coming up short in the Triple Threat Match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, Rusev interrupted and started screaming in Russian, until Cena got right in his face. It was an intense moment that was eventually broken up by other Superstars.

A few weeks ago, Rusev and Lana paid “tribute” to Cena, which ended in a brawl that saw Rusev take Cena out by attacking his injured eye.

This past Monday, Cena took the upper-hand with a very similar brawl that played out the same way, but this time with Cena on top, showing a lot of his infamous “ruthless aggression.”

What will happen when the undefeated Super Athlete goes toe-to-toe with The Face That Runs The Place? Rob Wolkenbrod, Jordan Campbell, Callum Wiggins, Tim Sherry, and Mike Smith have some predictions:

Rob’s Take: I’m not expecting this one to last too long, especially with the amount of matches and segments scheduled for the show.

With how angry Rusev looked on SmackDown, I think that aggression is going to continue into his Fastlane match with Cena. Rusev will get disqualified very early on in the match for attacking Cena with a weapon, which will lead to a lengthy brawl between the two. A finish for their match will be saved for WrestleMania 31.

Rob’s Prediction: John Cena wins via DQ

Jordan’s Take: I should start this by saying that I am a Bi-Polar John Cena fan. There are times when I love Cena’s character and there are times when I hate the John Cena character. During his feud with Rusev, I have become a strong fan of the Cena character. Ideally, Cena would get a no disqualification win in this match and Rusev would go on to win cleanly at WrestleMania. But this is WWE and we can not forget about Cena’s infamous shovel. If WWE truly wants Rusev to to be a top heel, then they should give him a clean victory at WrestleMania. But WWE will not bruise Cena’s reputation. Therefore, Rusev gets his win on Sunday in all it’s premature glory.

The prediction here is that Rusev will win on Sunday, but that will only lead to a burial by Cena at WrestleMania.

Jordan’s Prediction: Rusev

Callum’s Take: The United States Championship match has snuck up from nowhere to become a key match on the card. Rusev and Cena actually appear to have solid chemistry, which is largely down to the fact that Cena is treating Rusev like a genuine threat. When the biggest star in the company is putting you over on the microphone like Cena has for the Super Athlete, it does mean a great deal.

The physicality both have demonstrated in the build up to this match should contribute to an aggressive battle between the combatants. However, this whiffs of producing a false finish in order to extend this feud into WrestleMania. As such, I believe Cena will win by disqualification when Lana attempts to get involved. Rusev then attacks from behind, locking him in The Accolade to leave Cena chasing revenge.

Callum’s Prediction: John Cena wins via DQ

Tim’s Take: In the first match of a feud that I personally believed was going to be awful and have been pleasantly surprised that it hasn’t, the WWE will be at a crossroads here. They are trying everything in their power to get Rusev over as a top heel, thus pairing him with Cena, but are they truly ready to let Cena take the fall in order to do it? The answer I believe, is a sort of yes. Rusev will win but there is no way that he will pin Cena clean or submit him. Look for WWE to play up the eye injury angle with Cena, and Rusev picking up the win due to injury stoppage. The better question is what will happen moving forward? They will clearly go again at Mania, and that’s when creative will really have to make a decision. Does Cena prevail and “bury” Rusev or are they ready to commit 100% to the Bulgarian Brute?

Tim’s Prediction: Rusev wins via referee stoppage

Mike’s Take: The injured eye of Cena will definitely play a role here, which is why I think Rusev will win after a superkick.

We all know this is leading to WrestleMania, but who knows what will happen there. For now, I think Rusev gets the win.

Mike’s Prediction: Rusev

We are 3-2 in favor of Rusev, but we all think that Rusev will walk out still United States Champion. Do you think Cena will take the United States Championship? Let us know in the comments section below.
