Rusev and John Cena backstage
Rusev was walking to the ring, when he ran into Cena.
Cena said that he knows he needs to earn his spot at WrestleMania. Cena said that Rusev was given a privilege too, the chance to succeed in America.
Cena said that Rusev should be proud of where he came from, but he shouldn’t degrade America in the process.
Cena said that if Rusev has one negative word to say about America, he doesn’t need a WrestleMania match, he’ll prove how much fight America has, tonight.
Cena was strong here. It’s nice to see Cena finally acting like he’s defending the US.
Rusev vs. Curtis Axel
Before the match, Rusev attacked Axel. The referee separated them and started the match.
After the match started, Axel got in a few shots on Rusev, but not very much. Rusev dominated and won with The Accolade.
Rusev defeats Axel via submission.
Absolute squash match. Axel actually makes you believe in him for a second, but that second is ever so fleeting.
Rusev promo
After the match, Lana tried to stop Rusev, but he got on the mic anyway. He completely degraded America and the American people, until Cena slowly walked out, prepared for a fight, then walked down to the ring.
Cena locked in the STF, eventually making Rusev pass out. Cena exited the ring, but returned with a bottle of water. He woke Rusev up with the water, then locked in the STF again, this time making Rusev physically tap.
Lana shouted at Cena to stop, even offering him a match at WrestleMania, but Cena did not let go until she said the match would be for the United States Championship.
According to WWE’s WrestleMania Twitter account, the match is official:
Bray Wyatt backstage
Wyatt said he’d walk through the fires of hell just to see The Undertaker, but he can’t wait much longer.
Rusev and Lana backstage
Rusev was being checked on by the trainer.
Lana was standing there, as Rusev started to come to, and they shouted at each other in Russian. Rusev seemed to be upset with Lana for giving John Cena the match, while Lana was defending her actions.
