WWE Needs the Cruiserweight Championship to Return for Neville

On the Post-WrestleMania edition of Raw we saw the WWE main roster debut of Neville.  He had a very exciting debut in a squash-match versus Mr. Axelmania Curt Axel – finishing the match with his amazing “Red Arrow” finish.

With his debut he unfortunately came out in a superhero hooded cape – all but confirming the much rumored “Mighty Mouse” gimmick that he was reported to be saddled with.  With that now there may be another great talent wasted away with a poor gimmick.

But that doesn’t have to be the case for Neville if the WWE would simply bring back the Cruiserweight title.

With a roster that has plenty of high flyers and undersized talents – this title would revive a lot of careers that have become stagnant.

Bringing that belt back would also allow for a lot of the talent in NXT to be used on the main roster when they are ready to make the jump.

On the main roster alone there are a good handful of wrestlers who could excel with this new opportunity.  Tyson Kidd would be a great example if not for Cesaro teaming up with him to give the tag division a much-needed boost.

Other than Kidd, names like Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods, Sin Cara, Fandango, Bo Dallas, Los Matadors, Heath Slater, Zack Ryder, and Kalisto could join Neville in this new division and have some success.

Having the division open would also utilize the talent in a good way instead of throwing them on Raw and SmackDown to make Rusev or Bray Wyatt look even stronger a week before a pay per view.

If you look at the NXT roster and see who could potentially be coming up soon – guys like Sami Zayn and Tyler Breeze could get lost in the shuffle.

Both very talented guys and Breeze has the charisma to be a good heel on the main roster but he could find himself in the same boat as Fandango – quick push and then deflated because creative is out of ideas.

If you doubt the success of the Cruiserweight division – pay the $9.99 and watch some late 1990’s WCW pay per views and you’ll see that the best matches on each of those shows were those matches.

The crowd was hot for those matches and while on Nitro – they were always the reason people would watch other than the peak run of Goldberg and nWo.  Granted the talent they had to work with was excellent but the talent that is available to the WWE also if given the chance could be as good.

With no other real brand around – WWE could pick away at any of the Ring of Honor guys to fit the mold.  With the Network being in Japan – there will be a need for a more Japanese presence on the roster.  There are a ton of guys that could carry the Cruiserweight division.

The argument that some will make for not bringing back the title will be if it does happen – you’re taking a risk at having management taking guys like Daniel Bryan, Seth Rollins, and Finn Balor and taking them out of the big picture – the WWE World Title.  That isn’t going to happen.

Bryan is making them money and he is too popular to keep out of the main event scene.  Rollins is too good not to have in the top of the roster.  Balor has that “it factor” – he isn’t going to be held down.

This division would be for those guys who can wrestle a great match but for whatever reason are not on the forefront of the minds of creative and management.

These guys are collecting a paycheck – they have talent, if they didn’t they wouldn’t be employed by the WWE – so why not use them and give the fans some exciting matches.
