The Ultimate Warrior’s Top Rivalries in His WWE Career
No. 4: Andre The Giant
WWE.com
Andre The Giant dominated the ring for over 20 years. Near the end of his career though he had a hard time moving and was in an incredible amount of pain all the time. He also would do a lot for the WWE and help establish new stars to help the company grow. From “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan and Jake “The Snake” Roberts, Andre made these guys into big stars.
Another he helped in making a main event star was The Ultimate Warrior. After the Warrior’s WrestleMania V loss to Rick Rude – Warrior turned his attention to Andre. It was in that time that the Warrior would be looked at as possibly the future No.1 man in the company once Hulk Hogan was done.
At first the two would have very quick matches where the Warrior would run into the ring and hit the ropes with several power close lines to The Giant, eventually knocking him off his feet and splashing him for a quick pin. Later they would have some matches that would usually last around the five to seven minute mark.
In those matches Andre would show more offense and choke the Warrior down and show the Warrior how to take more shots and look hurt. It would also show the fans that Hulk Hogan wasn’t the only one who could slam The Giant.
The Ultimate Warrior would lift Andre way up and slam him down with brute force. His slams actually looked a lot easier than Hulkster’s. Some of that could be that Andre was older and may have lost some weight – but maybe it was that Warrior was just that strong.
The feud would allow Rick Rude to hold on to the Intercontinental title for a little while and still show off to the Warrior and mock him but keep the two from actually fighting. Andre always being in the middle to stop the Warrior.
The feud worked in two ways – it made the Warrior look even better and it kept the feud of Rude vs. Warrior hot without having the two even touch each other.
