WWE United States Championship Match (Russian Chain Match)
John Cena (c) vs. Rusev
Result: John Cena defeats Rusev by touching all four corners to retain the WWE United States Championship.
Rating: 3.0 out of 5 stars
The dynamic of this match was interesting to follow. They haven’t done one of these chain/rope matches in years. There was a lot of ring psychology involved in this.
The match didn’t have a quick pace to it throughout, which can be attributed to the chain.
About mid-way through, the fans chanted for Lana, who came up to the ring apron and waived to the crowd. Rusev would go over and scream at her to get off. This led to the Ravishing Russian walking off sad to the back. Potential face turn here?
The ending came down to both of them having touched three of the four corners. Cena would pick up Rusev, hit the AA on him and touch the fourth corner for the victory.
Not a fan of the finish. This leaves Rusev looking horrible now and in the exact same spot Bray Wyatt was in last year. This means the Bulgarian Brute has a long road ahead of him. Has WWE not learned anything?
