No.4: The Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase

The Million Dollar Man did buy the WWE title off Andre The Giant but officially he has never been the World Champion. He looked to be well on his way to win that title at WrestleMania IV in the tournament after receiving a bye into the tournament finals. In the finals he faced off against The Macho Man Randy Savage who just had a tough match against the near 500 pound One Man Gang.

With Virgil and Andre in his corner, he was almost assured to be the champion – that was until Miss Elizabeth ran to the back and brought out Hulk Hogan to even things out. Macho Man went on to win the belt and DiBiase, Andre, Savage, and Hogan would feud throughout the spring and into the end of summer.

He had a couple of different shots at Hogan and Warrior as a challenger on Saturday Night’s Main Event and house shows around the country, but he never reached the main event level again as far as challenging consistently for the belt again. Which is very odd considering how good of a wrestler he was and how much people just hated him.

He had some good programs with guys like Jake Roberts, Big Bossman, and Dusty Rhodes which he made the most out of and carried the midcard programs very well to help sell the events.

DiBiase had success in the Mid-South NWA territory and some in All Japan as well. Before his Million Dollar Man stint in the WWE, DiBiase actually won the North American championship in the WWF, which was later made into the Intercontinental Title.

But at least he had the Million Dollar Belt to keep his rip away suit up.
