No.1: Hot Rod Rowdy Roddy Piper

The greatest heel ever in professional wrestling (in my opinion). I still say that WrestleMania I and II should have been Hogan vs. Piper for the World title. Different opinions and stories have been said to why the two never had any real one-on-one matches for the title. I would guess probably neither would agree to put another over, but I could be wrong. Either way, Piper was as over as anyone ever was as a heel. The man started riots at arenas when he was there. He said what he wanted and didn’t care who didn’t like it.

The amount of money that the WWE lost because they didn’t capitalize on a Hogan vs. Piper title match run has to be mind-boggling. If that were today, no way that happens without someone losing their job.

Hulkamania would have never been as big as it was if not for Hot Rod to make it that way. Batman needed the Joker just as Hogan needed Piper.

Piper was always a main part of the WWE roster in his days with the company as he was as big of a draw as anyone. When he turned face and the crowd stopped booing him and started to cheer, he had different feuds with Adrian Adonis, Ric Flair, Rick Rude, Bad News Brown, and a short one with Bret Hart for the Intercontinental title.

WCW tried to revive the Hogan vs. Piper feud and did a decent job with it considering the roles were reversed as Hogan was the heel and Piper the face, but it wasn’t like the original.

Piper had the brunt of his title success in his early NWA days with Mid-Atlantic mostly. He a lot like Jake Roberts, didn’t need a title to get over with the crowd or become a main attraction, but still he should have had the title. Just think if Piper beat Hogan at WrestleMania II instead of fighting Mr. T? Think of the run the two could have had around the country with those two going back and forth at each other…..what could have been.
