WWE United States Championship “I Quit” Match
John Cena (c) vs. Rusev

Result: John Cena defeats Rusev after Lana says Rusev quits to retain the WWE United States Championship.

Rating: 2.8 out of 5 stars

Rusev immediately got onto the mic and yelled something in Bulgarian. He then demanded Cena to quit before the match even started. Cena rejected and charged at Rusev to begin the match.

After a flurry of offense, we got some “We want Lana” chants, which infuriated Rusev. He demanded she sit on a chair by the announce table.

Rusev would continue to go to work on Cena, who said no to quitting. He then rejected it a second time.

Cena would get a brief amount of offense but be taken down again. Rusev would go outside and yell something at Lana again, who handed him the Russian flag to wave.

After he finished waving the flag, Cena took over again and hit the five knuckle shuffle plus a few shoulder tackles. Rusev would quickly get the edge back, however. He sent Mr. HLR into the steel steps and said no to quitting for probably the 7th or 8th time.

Rusev would then focus on Cena’s shoulder. He threw him into the steel steps a few more times before the latter man finally got brief offense. Rusev quickly took over again, though, but Cena refused to quit.

Cena would finally get an advantage by hitting the AA on the steel steps, which put Rusev out of breath. Cena would then finally go to work on the Bulgarian Brute. Cena asked Rusev to quit otherwise he’d put him through a barrier. The former US Champion said no, which led to Cena putting him through the barrier.

Rusev would finally get an edge by using some box to get Cena down. They would battle onto the concrete and start trading blows.

Cena would grab electrical equipment and start hitting Rusev’s back. This put him in a lot of pain but he refused to quit.

Rusev would grab a wire and then figure something out. However, Cena would hit the AA on Rusev on some “explosive” electrical equipment. This put Lana in distress, but Rusev didn’t quit.

The Bulgarian would finally get an edge by suplexing Cena into a steel fence but he didn’t quit.

Rusev would get Cena into the ring and put The Accolade on him. He would lock it in and cause Cena to fade. As it looked like Cena passed out, he didn’t quit. This sent Rusev into a fury and ended up taking off the rope from the turnbuckle. Out of nowhere, Cena would grab the rope and put the STF on him. Lana would freak out, grab the mic and said Rusev quits.

Rob’s Note: This was such a slow and long match. I liked the brutality, but this moved at a snail’s pace. The crowd may have liked it, but the 20+ minute match was weak.
