Sheamus Has the Only Chance of Winning the IC Title at Elimination Chamber
The WWE Intercontinental Championship Elimination Chamber match will have six participants. However, Sheamus is the only one with a legitimate chance at taking home the belt.
Tonight will be the WWE Elimination Chamber pay-per-view. It will be aired exclusively on the WWE Network. One of the Elimination Chamber matches will be for the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Ryback, Rusev (if healthy), King Barrett, Sheamus, R-Truth and Dolph Ziggler will participate in this contest.
This match has mostly solid mid-card talents in it. However, Sheamus really has the only chance of winning this based on the booking of these six stars.
Rusev would have been third on this list to win the IC Title. Unfortunately he suffered an injury on Thursday Night SmackDown that may keep him out of the match. It will also stall his feud with Lana and Dolph Ziggler. Even if Rusev was healthy, the ongoing feud would have given him no chance of winning the belt.
R-Truth has no chance based on his past booking. He’ll likely be taken out quickly in this.
Ryback has been booked somewhat strong since his Bray Wyatt feud. Coming off a loss in that PPV match, though, it’s hard to picture a win in his future for this match. Expect a good performance from the former Skip Sheffield.
Then there’s King Barrett, who WWE feels can lose all the time when he has a title to his name. Taking away the “Bad News” aspect from his character has made him stale. He even has been a victim of Truth’s recently. If he wins this match it will be shocking.
Dolph Ziggler is second-in-line for the IC Title at Elimination Chamber. With Rusev heading to the sidelines, the Show-Off may have the title placed on him yet again. He’s proven to be a terrific champion in the past so seeing WWE run with him wouldn’t surprise anyone.
Unfortunately for Ziggler, Sheamus is the one with the only realistic chance of winning. Despite being pinned by Ziggler at WWE Extreme Rules, The Celtic Warrior still came out on top when he got Ziggler to “kiss his arse.” He would then defeat Ziggler at Payback and on an episode of Raw.
The big push for Sheamus has been seen from a mile away besides what’s noted above. It was rumored for months he was in for a big heel push whenever he returned. Some thought it would be in the World Title picture but as we’ve seen, he has torn through the mid-card. He received the new look, new entrance music and a change in personality that alluded to big things in his future. While it hasn’t resulted in a title, tonight should be the night where it will happen.
So after Sheamus likely wins this match, he’ll likely go into a feud with Ryback or go back into one with Ziggler. We saw tension build between these two (Ryback and Sheamus) nearly two weeks ago on Raw that could set something up. How good of a feud that could be remains to be seen.
Going back into one with Ziggler could be fun since their feud wasn’t bad but Sheamus has already defeated him twice. Would anyone see Ziggler having a chance?
Going into Elimination Chamber tonight, Sheamus is likely to pick up the win to claim the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Any other result will be surprising.
