Cesaro Should Receive Long-Awaited Push from WWE

With tag team partner Tyson Kidd out for the foreseeable future with an injury, it’s time for WWE to finally push Cesaro.

Prior to last week’s Monday Night Raw, Tyson Kidd faced Samoa Joe in a dark match. Unfortunately for the former Tag Team Champion, he took a Muscle Buster from Joe awkwardly and was injured upon impact. It led to a spinal cord injury that will keep him out for awhile.

Kidd’s partner in crime was Cesaro, whose now left with nothing to do. He has been in this position multiple times from his time before The Real Americans and as recent as last summer. This was when the former ROH star was supposed to receive a big push with Paul Heyman by his side. The alliance didn’t work out and WWE quickly dropped the momentum build for the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal winner. We profiled his fall last year.

Now that Cesaro is back in the same spot, it’s time for WWE to give him a push as a singles star.

The Brass Ring Club was turned face out of nowhere a few months ago to feud with New Day, so Cesaro would be working face (as he should have been nearly a year ago). This would be a new avenue for him. There is surprisingly a lack of depth in the mid-card faces, so he could fit in.

The first possibility for Cesaro to build himself up would be answering John Cena’s US Open Challenge tonight on Raw. Faces have answered the challenge multiple time, so this wouldn’t be out of the ordinary. The Swiss Superman could put on an epic performance like he has with Cena in the past.

Cesaro would lose this match but his performance would get him added to the Money in the Bank ladder match as the 8th participant. While he likely wouldn’t win this (Roman Reigns is the clear-cut favorite), he wouldn’t get pinned and could wow fans with his strength.

From there, it’s anyone’s guess how Cesaro would be booked. He wouldn’t feud with a fellow face in Ryback (unless Big Show or The Miz gets the IC Title off him). There could be opportunities for Cesaro if Reigns turns heel, though. He could be put in more high-profile TV matches by teaming up with Dean Ambrose in his feud with Reigns.

The other possibility that would wipe all this out is if WWE chooses to keep Cesaro off TV until Kidd is healthy or put him on sporadically. This would be a similar formula to what they’re doing with Jimmy Uso while his brother Jey is out with an injury. It would be a disappointing development but not a surprising one since WWE hasn’t shown to be high on The King of Swing.

The direction of Cesaro will hopefully be addressed tonight. If not, the last scenario mentioned seems most likely for him.
