A Personal Drive for Wrestling

When Kevin Owens gives an interview about his history in wrestling, such as this one for Rolling Stone magazine last month, it is obvious that he has an unbelievable passion and inner drive for the art of professional wrestling. Owens became hooked on wrestling after initially dismissing it when he saw WrestleMania 11, in particular the match between Diesel and Shawn Michaels for the WWE Championship. His parents were supportive of his dream to pursue wrestling, and found him a good wrestling school when he was only 14 to learn and develop under the tutelage of Jacques Rougeau and Terry Taylor.

But his motivation extends beyond his early years honing the craft. Owens has a wife and two children who he has supported through wrestling, and no matter whether he is portraying a babyface or heel, that is at the heart of everything he does in life. The fuel behind his feud with Sami Zayn over the NXT Championship was the desire to provide the best living possible for his family, and that is a stance that most people can relate to, no matter your background or occupation. WWE is just the culmination of years of merely surviving to make a name for himself in professional wrestling, and now he has reached this milestone, Owens will forever refuse to let it go.

It is this personal motivation and pursuit of goals that keeps Owens hungry, determined to improve and ready to make an impact at every possible opportunity. He has been in love with professional wrestling since he was a kid, and performing in dozens of countries and thousands of arenas showed he had an insatiable desire to make a career out of this. And his family add another layer to that focus on being the best, and helps keep him fighting until he is at the top of WWE’s mountain.
