WWE Beast in the East Results: Chris Jericho vs. Neville
Check out the results of the WWE Beast in the East event, with Chris Jericho clashing with Neville in the opening contest.
On a show that holds so much promise, this is an excellent way to start the Beast in the East event, with the legendary Chris Jericho returning to take on the Man Gravity Forgot, Neville.
The action begins with some strong technical wrestling, the grappling eventually handing Neville the upper-hand. Jericho is clearly the more popular, due to his previous exploits in Japan in the 1990’s, and for his longevity in the wrestling business compared to Neville.
Both Jericho and Neville then trade throwing their opponent to ringside, with the intention of flying onto the other. This was blocked twice, before Jericho finally secured the flow of momentum with a springboard dropkick knocking Neville off the apron to the floor.
This allowed the veteran Canadian wear down his younger competitor, playing to the crowd expertly throughout his punishment of Neville. This included one of his patented single-foot pin attempts following a reverse elbow.
When Neville is able to escape this pressure, the action becomes a back-and-forth battle, with both trading kicks and enziguris that draw a great deal of acclaim from the Japanese audience. Neville fights out of an attempt at the Walls of Jericho, and responds with a flurry of kicks and strikes.
However, after blocking an attempted superplex by Jericho by throwing him down to the mat, Neville is unable to connect with the Red Arrow as the veteran rolls out of the way. Jericho then counters a hurricanrana attempt into the Walls of Jericho, but Neville manages to claw his way to the ropes.
Neville then is able to side-step Jericho, sending him to ringside, leaving him in perfect position to soar over the top rope with his Spaceman Splash. This is followed up by a springboard dropkick as the Brit looks to overcome his iconic opponent, linking this with a running moonsault.
Jericho however recovers strongly, but his Lionsault is unable to keep Neville down. Even more remarkably, Jericho then catches Neville jumping into the ring in a huge Codebreaker, but the young superstar still refuses to be pinned, frustrating the Canadian.
At this point the crowd are more than satisfied with the flow of the match, with numerous “This is Awesome” chants, and when Neville connects with a low superkick to the face of Jericho, it appears as though the end is nigh as he ascends the top turnbuckle.
Yet, as he lands the Red Arrow, Jericho is able to get his knees up, taking the wind out of Neville on impact. Jericho then applies his Liontamer version of the Walls of Jericho, pressing his knee into the back of his opponent, and Neville is left with no choice but to submit.
Excellent match to start the show in the best possible manner, and a demonstration if it was ever needed that Jericho can still mix it up with the very best today.
