NJPW G1 Climax Day Five Review
Michael Elgin and Satoshi Kojima vs. Kazuchika Okada and Gedo
Result: Michael Elgin and Satoshi Kojima defeat Kazuchika Okada and Gedo via pinfall.
Rating: 2.8 out of 5 stars
Okada and Kojima started this with the latter gaining control. Elgin and Gedo would tag in and the two had a brief standoff. The big guy tossed the Chaos member, who received chants from the crowd.
Elgin tried attacking but got hit with a few kicks and blows to the face. Elgin then hit one of his very long suplexes. Okada would break it up but hit a kick to the head on Gedo. He picked up both men and hit a fall away slam. Impressive.
Kojima came in and methodically attacked Gedo with a few stomps. He tagged back in Elgin, who hit a very loud blow to the face that even hurt his hand. He hit a big elbow for a near-fall. Gedo continued to try to find an opening for Okada but beaten down by the Ring of Honor star.
Gedo finally hit the hot tag on Okada, who hit a big clothesline and DDT for a near-fall. Elgin would go back ahead and hit a second rope forearm. He tagged back in Kojima who hit a bunch of chops on the IWGP Heavyweight Champion. We even got a “WOO” out of the crowd.
Okada set up for a piledriver but got hit with a cutter. He countered with a big dropkick and tagged in Gedo.
Gedo hit a superkick but Elgin came in and picked him up. Kojima would mistakenly club his partner, leading to a near-roll up. This didn’t hurt Kojima, as he hit a big clothesline on Gedo for the win.
Rob’s Note: This was more impressive than Elgin usually looks in ROH. Maybe it’s the booking or freedom given but he was made to look dominate.
Gedo picking up the fall is fine, as Okada is the IWGP Champion and won’t be taking a loss anytime soon.
