WWE United States Championship Match
John Cena (c) vs. Seth Rollins

Result: John Cena defeats Seth Rollins via submission to retain the WWE United States Championship.

Rating: 3.2 out of 5 stars

Rollins and Cena traded holds until the latter hit a shoulder tackle. Cena continued with a hold, another shoulder tackle and hip toss for a near-fall.

Rollins got in a kick to the gut and took him down.

We come back to see Rollins still in control until Cena hit a few punches. Rollins would duck a charge and nearly get a pin.

Rollins went for a punch but Cena ducked and went for his five knuckle shuffle sequence. The WWE WHC would counter the side slam and nearly get a pin.

Cena would finally get the side slam, go for the five knuckle shuffle but get kicked. Cena would hit a tornado DDT but Rollins kicked out. He would hit a dive on the U.S. Champion and climb to the top rope. He clipped Cena with his knee for a near-fall.

Cena would hit the Electric Chair for a near-fall.

The two traded punches in the ring until Rollins took Cena down with a hit to the nose. This kept him down for a time because blood started coming out of his nose but the match kept going. Rollins put him into a turnbuckle for a near-fall.

After the doctors checked on Cena, he hit the springboard stunner and went for the AA but Rollins hit two superkicks for a near-fall.

Cena would hit an AA but Rollins just kicked out.

Rollins would hit a suplex off the top rope and hit a slam but Cena kicked out. He would get Rollins into the STF and win by submission.

Rob’s Note: This is a match that would have worked with a disqualification. Everyone would have understood the decision because Rollins owns the company title and we would have moved on. However, they had Cena make him tap out. Star of the past ten years or not, Cena owns the “TV Title” and Rollins has the company title.

Some may call this a “smark” view but the booking seems to be coming down from Vince McMahon himself. It’s not Rollins being buried but McMahon Kevin Dunn saw Cena lose to Kevin Owens at WWE Elimination Chamber and have made him invincible since. If he takes the WWE WHC off Rollins at SummerSlam, there’s going to be a big problem with this.
