WWE SmackDown Review: Owens & Rollins vs Cesaro & Ambrose
By Evan Gomes
Sheamus is shown backstage getting ready to come out to address the WWE Universe.
After the break we get a recap of Sheamus’ attack on Randy Orton on RAW. Sheamus is interviewed backstage and says that his feud with Orton is not over. He says Orton fancies himself a real man, but Sheamus says he’ll be the last real man standing in WWE. Sheamus asks Jojo to imagine a WWE without Orton and calls it a blue sky without a cloud or Oklahoma without Tulsa. The line about Tulsa should not have been funny, but Sheamus’ delivery was actually entertaining for him.
We get a recap of Undertaker-Lesnar from 2 weeks ago. Lesnar is announced to be on RAW this monday, instantly making Monday must see TV.
Kevin Owens & Seth Rollins vs Cesaro & Dean Ambrose
Result: Cesaro def. Owens by pinfall (Roll-up)
Rating: 3.2 stars out of 5 stars
At first it looks like Cesaro is going alone, but then Dean Ambrose is revealed to be the mystery partner because he will take any chance to get his hands on Seth “Justin Bieber” Rollins.
The faces clear the ring to start the match and inside the ring is just a brawl to start. We go to break with the faces standing tall in the ring. The match officially starts after the break with Ambrose vs Rollins in the ring. Cesaro gets worked over by Owens and Rollins, keeping the momentum on the side of the heels. Cesaro seems close to a tag multiple times but just can’t quite reach Ambrose.
Dean gets the hot tag and takes Rollins to the woodshed. Ambrose flips Rollins to the outside and hits the suicide dive through the ropes on the champ. Dean goes for Dirty Deeds but gets countered. Rollins takes control and hits a flying knee and a super kick for a two count.
Owens gets into the match and hits a superplex for a two count. The pin was broken up by Cesaro. Owens goes for a big senton and misses. Cesaro then lays into Owens with his uppercuts. Cesaro locks Owens into a crossface, and when Rollins attempts to interfere he gets a giant swing for his troubles.
Owens hits Ambrose with a superkick and tries to get a Pop-Up Powerbomb on Ambrose. Cesaro pushes Owens out of the way and rolls up Owens for the victory!
Cesaro celebrates in the crowd with Ambrose while Owens throws the steel steps in disgust. The faces stand tall to end SmackDown.
Evan’s Notes: A well worked tag match with a lot of back and forth action and a fun and unexpected ending. It is great to see Cesaro getting the push that maybe should have accompanied his Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal win from Wrestlemania 30. A fun match to end a decent show.
