WWE SummerSlam: Power Ranking Every Show
2000
WWE was at a peak in 2000, as even with Stone Cold Steve Austin on the shelf, the main event scene and tag team division were thriving like never before. And these two elements combined to produce and outstanding show, worthy of being considered the very best SummerSlam to have ever taken place. Yes, it was hampered by an unappealing brawl between Undertaker and Kane which saw the Big Red Machine briefly unmasked and a “Thong Stinkface Match” pitting the Kat against Terri. But sometimes the underwhelming or ridiculousness is washed away by the immense radiance shining from the standout matches on the card.
The main event was personal in every sense of the word, as the Rock defended his WWE Championship against longtime rival Triple H and the Game’s “love rival” Kurt Angle, who had actively been pursuing Stephanie McMahon. All three had wonderful chemistry, with the champion retaining ending the show on an emphatic high. Yet, in terms of performance it was overshadowed by the Tag Team title match. The legendary three-way feud between The Dudleys, The Hardys and Edge & Christian launched them all to superstardom, with the first-ever TLC match propelling the ladder match to new heights. When you also add Chris Benoit facing Chris Jericho over Two out of Three Falls and Shane McMahon taking incredible risks in a Hardcore match with Steve Blackman, it was an unforgettable night and a must-watch for all wrestling fans.
