2007

This New Jersey based affair was wholly forgettable from top to bottom. It was billed as the exciting return of Triple H, after he suffered a second horrific quadriceps injury back in January. But, this was sullied by being wasted on a weak performance against King Booker, with the background to this encounter being that there could only be one true King in WWE. It really wasn’t a contest with the immense gravitas the Game’s highly-anticipated return merited, and the fact that Booker left the company a short time later lessened its significance even further.

The remainder of the show was equally as undistinguished and mediocre as this bout, dropping it to the lower end of this spectrum of past SummerSlams. The main event of John Cena vs Randy Orton for the WWE Championship was still relatively fresh in 2007, but even that could not add any additional sparkle to the card. With the Great Khali defending his World Heavyweight Championship (never a positive sign for any show), an inter-promotional Divas Battle Royal and only two matches going longer than 10 minutes long, it really did nothing to add to the reputation of the second-biggest WWE event.
