1994

Another example of a SummerSlam rescued from a lousy overall showing with a couple of standout gems, 1994 was a decidedly mixed event. It was piled with short, forgettable contests with little-to-no consequence, and topped off with another of the Undertaker’s encounters that he would certainly rather forget. He returned from injury to challenge an impostor managed by Ted Dibiase, which was a flop all-around. From the corny vignettes starring Leslie Nielsen trying to “find” the real Undertaker, to the dull, lifeless fight that closed the event on a sour note.

However, in amidst these tedious fixtures, the night was rescued with some championship action. Alundra Blayze and Bull Nakano were two of the best female wrestlers of the 1990’s, producing a solid battle. The popular “Bad Guy” Razor Ramon captured the Intercontinental Championship in a clash with Diesel, but the real treasure came in the WWE title match. In a deeply personal brawl trapped inside of a steel cage, Bret Hart withstood a determined challenge from his jealous brother Owen, which thankfully took up the vast majority of the show’s time.
