WWE Raw Review: SummerSlam Go-Home, Brock Lesnar’s Homecoming

Brock Lesnar’s Homecoming
Paul Heyman starts with a promo. He starts talking about Brock Lesnar’s career accomplishments outside of WWE, including in college with the University of Minnesota. He then welcomes out Lesnar to streamers and confetti.
Heyman then gets on his knees and starts bowing. He starts singing a song about Lesnar defeating Undertaker’s streak and it’s just epic.
The lights then went out and the gong played but Undertaker didn’t appear. Heyman said “that’s the best you got, Jedi mind tricks?” He said at SummerSlam, Undertaker can get God and the devil to team with him but Lesnar will take them all to suplex city.
Heyman says when Undertaker finally made his move at WWE Battleground, he went for the low blow. He questions why ‘Taker would do this and comes to the conclusion that it’s because he has never defeated Lesnar. He says Lesnar will never lose to ‘Taker because ‘Taker fears him.
Heyman says at SummerSlam, Undertaker is fighting THE Beast. He says Lesnar will offer no respect to Undertaker’s accomplishments or recognition to what he’s done in his career.
The lights then go off again and Undertaker appears in the ring. He hit another low blow on Lesnar. Undertaker set up for the chokeslam and planted him into the ground. He then hits him with the Tombstone Piledriver.
Rob’s Note: This closing segment should have been better but the booking for it was a mess.
So after fans have watched Undertaker wrestle for a quarter-century, he has to resort to low blows? Who in their right mind came up with that concept?
That low blow led to Undertaker getting booed for the first time since he was a heel in the late 90’s. However, this was because WWE booked Undertaker to kick Lesnar below the belt in his home state of Minnesota. I can’t see how this was the plan from WWE’s end. What did they really expect to happen?
Undertaker isn’t supposed to be the bad guy in this. He even raised his fist with his back turned as the show closed, which is a very babyface move to do. Lesnar isn’t supposed to be the bad guy, either. It’s just a story built on revenge from a beloved WWE legend. Unfortunately, WWE’s horrendous, lazy booking is back at it and caused a match that has been sold so well to go out with a big thud on the go-home Raw.
What a mess.
