“The Match Too Big For WrestleMania”

Brock Lesnar vs The Undertaker

Results: Undertaker def. Lesnar by knock-out (Hell’s Gate)

Rating: 4.75 stars out of 5 stars

Lesnar didn’t even wait for Undertaker to take his leather coat off before laying into him with knees and strikes. Undertaker manages to fight back and clothesline Lesnar to the outside of the ring. Once Lesnar manages to get into the ring the bell officially rings. Taker gets an upper hand against Lesnar and goes for the Old School. Lesnar pulls Taker down and goes for an F5 but the Deadman gets out of it. He has Lesnar in a chokeslam but Lesnar again manages to get out and start hitting Taker with suplexes.

Taker hits the Snake Eyes on Lesnar and then connects with the big boot. Lesnar is busted open again as Undertaker runs Lesnar into the apron and barricade. Undertaker lines up Lesnar on the apron and drops the leg onto Brock. The Brooklyn crowd chants “You Still Got It” as Undertaker begins picking apart Lesnar with strikes. Taker has Lesnar up for a chokeslam but he moves and instead gets a german suplex on the Deadman.

Brock ends up hitting three germans in a row and Undertaker rolls out of the ring to the outside. Lesnar starts taking apart the French announce table but Taker catches Lesnar with an elbow. Taker has Lesnar set up for a Last Ride, but Lesnar turns it into an F5 and he puts Undertaker right through the table.

Taker manages to make it into the ring at the count of 9. Lesnar’s face is a crimson mask as he stalks Undertaker and Lesnar tells him that he will kill him. Taker is completely drained after the F5 through the table. Undertaker tells Lesnar that he’ll have to kill him to stop him and destroys Brock with a chokeslam. Undertaker then hits a Tombstone Piledriver and gets a close 2 count. Both men are down and Lesnar gets up laughing, and Taker gets up laughing right back at him. They begin trading blows while still seated.

Eventually Brock ends up in the corner with a Kimura Lock on Taker. The Deadman survives the hold and musters up the energy to hit a Last Ride to Brock for a two count. Lesnar recovers first and hoists Undertaker for an F5. He makes the cover and gets the 2.9 count. Lesnar then connects with a third F5, and unlike Wrestlemania Taker manages to kick out again! Taker played possum on Lesnar again and managed to get Lesnar trapped in a Hell’s Gate. Lesnar struggles at first but rolls Taker into a Kimura Lock.

Someone calls for the bell while Lesnar has Undertaker in a Kimura. Lesnar lets go of the Kimura and Heyman begins celebrating because he swears he saw Taker tap out. Charles Robinson starts yelling at ringside because he never called for the bell. Undertaker manages to hit Lesnar with a low blow while Robinson wasn’t looking. He then locked Lesnar into a Hell’s Gate and lock it in very tight. He starts screaming at Lesnar to tap and Lesnar flips off the Deadman. As he’s giving Undertaker the middle finger, Brock fades and the ref calls for the bell. Undertaker has made the Beast tap.

On replay, we see that the timekeeper and Heyman were correct: Undertaker tapped where Robinson couldn’t see it. That made the real winner of the match Brock Lesnar, and Lesnar and Heyman are livid. Heyman grabs a mic and announces Brock Lesnar as the real winner of the match.

Evan’s Note: Wow, what a match. The finish was interesting and really established how Undertaker was willing to do anything, even cheat, in order to win the match. Having the finish be a little dusty does take away from the match quality; however, the match itself was an instant classic and a great brawl that had stellar striking, fantastic signature moves, some trips to suplex city, and more than it’s fair share of memorable moments. Undertaker is the official winner, Lesnar is the real winner, and the fans are all definite winners after that match.
