Since the 1980’s, the wrestling world has seen wrestlers align and unify with each other to meet a common goal. These alliances are known as factions. When successful, factions can win championships and lay dominance in the wrestling world. Factions have also been used to help elevate up and coming stars like The Rock, Triple H, Batista and Randy Orton all started their path to super stardom either by leading a faction or being a key member in one.

For a faction to become great, there needs to be a connection that draws the fans in. There needs to be something that represents their point of view, circumstance, fears, and frustrations. Ultimately, it is all about the connection. For example when D-Generation X were pulling their antics and causing trouble, it made fans feel like they were back in high school pulling pranks on their classmates.

The best factions over the last thirty years have been organic. They draw the audience in because whether you loved or hated them. you had a vested interest that week to see what they were going to do. Whether it was the nWo taking over WCW or seeing what The Corporation was going to do to Stone Cold Steve Austin, the best factions drew the emotions out of the fans.
