Is This Really a WWE Divas Revolution?

Not so long ago Stephanie McMahon promised us a Divas Revolution. What happened to it?

Just watch this before you start reading:

A little under 2 months ago, Stephanie McMahon stood in the ring on Raw and told us a Divas Revolution was coming. The introduction of 3 women from NXT, Charlotte, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch, were all thrust into the limelight on WWE’s flagship show.

Charlotte and Becky were aligned with former NXT Women’s Champion, Paige, while Sasha was put alongside Naomi and Tamina in the 3-way feud with The Bellas and Alicia Fox. At long last you thought we were about to see the women pushed to the moon, much like they had been in NXT.

Becky, Charlotte and Sasha (along with Bayley) had fought for months on NXT as well as stealing the show at numerous NXT TakeOver events. The women in NXT are booked as equals to the men. On the most recent TakeOver, Sasha Banks vs. Bayley for the title was booked as the co-main event alongside Finn Balor vs. Kevin Owens. As was said by the boss, Triple H, they were there on merit, not just as a gimmick. The women not only equaled the NXT title match but absolutely blew it away in what many are calling one of the matches of the year in WWE.

Back on Raw, the women have been booked as low or mid-card fodder for a long time, until the last few years when the likes of AJ Lee and Paige have brought back some prestige to the “Divas Championship.” In recent times, the division has become stagnant, with Nikki Bella apparently the only woman worthy of holding the gold.

The introduction of the women from NXT was advertised as the Divas Revolution but it’s been far from that since the day they made their debuts on the main roster. With 3 teams consisting of 3 women all trading wins and losses, nobody has looked strong. That booking philosophy has always hampered storylines. If you believe recent speculation, the original plan may have been for Charlotte to win the Divas title from Nikki not long after the debut on Raw, but that plan may have been vetoed after words from Nikki’s boyfriend, John Cena.

If Charlotte had won the belt in the first couple of weeks, then you could have called it a revolution. What we’ve seen has been more of a squib.

Nikki is seemingly only 2 weeks away from beating AJ Lee’s record for holding the championship, as we saw with the BellaTron making its debut on the most recent episode of Raw. Charlotte also beat both her PCB mates with the fastest win in the Beat the Clock challenge on the same episode. She will now face Nikki for the title at Night of Champions. If you really want to get this Revolution back on track, Charlotte needs to win that match and become the Divas Champion.

In the ring, the women that have come through NXT are the best that the company has to offer. You only have to look at the matches any of these women have had in the last year to see that. With all due respect to the women on the main roster, they don’t come anywhere near to the in-ring ability of Paige, Charlotte and friends.

If you finally want to show what a great set of talented women you have in your midst, then it’s time to finally to let them show what they’ve got. Don’t expect them to have 5 star matches when you give them less than 5 minutes in the majority of their outings. Let them go out and prove to the crowd that they have all the skill that the men on the roster have. A lot of them have as much, if not more ability, than the majority of the men that get pushed so heavily every single week.

Put that belt around Charlotte’s waist and let her show you in matches with Paige, Sasha and Becky that the women could main event a PPV. I can’t ever see the women main event a WrestleMania but if you give the fans enough reason to watch, enough reason to cheer, but most importantly enough reason to care about these women, then the sky is the limit.

Oh and Charlotte if you win the gold please get rid of the word “Diva” forever!
