2. Sting Makes His Point

As a fan growing up in the mid 90’s, Sting was one of the guys I loved to watch. With the death of WCW, he disappeared from wrestling until he reappeared in TNA for what was a mostly forgettable run. It’s now with great excitement for me that he’s in the biggest wrestling company in the world.

After making his debut at WrestleMania against Triple H, it’s been a while since we’ve seen that familiar face paint in WWE. Seeing him set to face off with Seth Rollins for the WWE Title at Night of Champions shows you how highly regarded he is with management.

On Raw this week, he came out and did something interesting and actually praised Rollins. He did say that while he’s good, he’s no Triple H. We saw Rollins backstage with Stephanie McMahon after this promo. Seth is so good at carrying his character that he could sell ice to the Eskimos. When he was bragging about being both World Heavyweight and United States Champion, you just knew the smile was set to be wiped off his face. That happened later in the show.

Seth called out Sting during the main event segment of the show. Apparently he still wanted to know where his statue went to last week. John Cena came out instead and tried to bait Rollins into a rematch for the U.S title. He didn’t look keen but Stephanie accepted on his behalf. Sting came out to end the show to stare down Rollins from the ramp.

The whole evening’s encounters push you further towards the WWE Title match in a couple of weeks. While that’s happening, Sting is doing his best to antagonize both Rollins and Triple H while teasing us towards the much rumored match between the 2 that may well happen in the coming months. How we get to that point is anyone’s guess. Seth is adamant he’s every bit as good as Triple H ever was, while Stephanie wants to let him know that while he’s nowhere near as good as her husband was, right now he’s THE man in the company.

All I want to see, for one night at the very least, is Sting holding the biggest title in the world of American wrestling. Cross your fingers because you might just see that in a couple of weeks time.
