Carmella vs. Peyton Royce
Result: Carmella defeats Peyton Royce via submission (choke hold).
Rating: 2.5 out of 5 stars
Carmella is out first calling herself the Princess of Staten Island for her match against Peyton Royce who is making her debut on NXT television. The two women give a fist bump to start their match as a show of respect.
The two women start the match with some chain wrestling including trading backslides for close two counts. Carmella avoids a clothesline from Royce and moonwalks away from her. Carmella hits a dropkick for another two count. Royce catches Carmella with a fisherman’s suplex and gets a two count. Royce puts Carmella in a modified one arm chokehold, but she manages to fight her way out of it.
Carmella gets the upper hand and hits a hurricanrana jumping off the top rope for a two count. She drives Royce’s face into her boot and then grounds the newcomer with a chokehold of her own. Royce manages to stand up and drives Carmella into the turnbuckle. She hits a series of spin kicks near the turnbuckle and hits a cross body for the two count. Carmella catches Royce in a submission maneuver, choking Royce with her legs for a tap out victory.
Evan’s Note: A good match put on by two women who are part of a now depleted Divas division down in NXT. Carmella was given lots of time to shine in this match and her commitment to her character is something to be commended.
