  1. No Holds Barred

The no holds barred match takes the Street Fight and attempts to one up it. While not very different in terms of rules from a Street Fight, the No Holds Barred match is a contest where the WWE has used bigger spots, and more unique weapons to sell the story of an absolute war.

Every rule gets thrown out the window, with the referee mostly having to watch two superstars take years off of each other’s career.Thumbtacks, barbed wire, flaming tables, baseball bats, kendo sticks, sledgehammers are all potential weapons that superstars found underneath the ring and used against one another.

The No Holds Barred match brought out the evil and sadistic side of many superstars, leading to some classic matches. It hasn’t been used much as of late, joining some of the other matches on this list. It still has it’s place on the list at number 13.

In the future, I wonder what a No Holds Barred match would look like between two up-and-coming NXT stars in the PG era of wrestling. There seems to be a transition from hardcore spots to pure wrestling, which for some is a welcome change. Only time will tell what the future of hardcore wrestling in the WWE will look like.
