Kevin Owens vs. Dolph Ziggler
Result: Kevin Owens defeats Dolph Ziggler via disqualification.
Rating: 3.25 out of 5 stars
Right at the bell Ziggler lays into Owens, but KO uses his strength advantage to catch Ziggler with some strikes. Ziggler manages to avoid Owens for a while, but KO catches him and hits a senton onto Ziggler’s back that looks extremely painful. Owens gets a two count and continues to fire away at Dolph. Owens halts a Ziggler comeback in its tracks with a DDT for a two count as we go to break.
Back from break and Owens has Ziggler grounded in a headlock. Dolph catches Owens with an elbow and then tosses Owens shoulder first into the ring post. Ziggler hits a series of clotheslines and rolls up Owens for a two count. He hits a FameAsser to Owens and KO gets a shoulder up at 2.9. Dolph catches an Owens superkick and hits a jumping DDT, but Owens kicks out again. Owens rolls to the outside to catch his breath.
On the outside, KO grabs Dolph and hits a fall away slam into the barricade. Dolph makes it back in at 8, and Owens tosses Ziggler back outside the ring. Owens rams Ziggler into the steel post and tosses him into the timekeeper’s area. Ziggler scrambles and makes it back in at a 9 count. Owens connects with a superkick to the chin and on the outside Owens is setting up Ziggler for an apron powerbomb.
Ryback’s music hits and he runs into the ring. Owens runs away from Ryback, who still grabs Owens and tries to hit him with a Shellshock. Owens scrambles away and celebrates after being named the winner by DQ.
Evan’s Note: Owens’ heel work is absolutely fantastic, especially his talking in the ring. After he stomped on Ziggler’s wrist and sarcastically said “oh no, your wrist!” Also he said “do it for Lana buddy” which is just so demeaning and wonderful to get heat. Owens is also best at getting serious and taking charge of a matchup. His work is something to be applauded.
A Ziggler-Owens program would be good in the future with Owens as the face and Ziggler as the heel.
