20) John Cena (c) vs. Randy Orton – WWE Championship Match, WWE Hell in a Cell 2009

This match was the first of two Hell in a Cell matches between John Cena and Randy Orton.

Cena and Orton were in the midst of a long rivalry. Orton retained the WWE Championship at SummerSlam in a match with Cena. However, he won by intentionally getting disqualified. Unless specified, any WWE Superstar can retain their title via DQ in a match.

A bout would then be created for WWE Breaking Point between the two men for the title. This time, Cena won the belt. It led to this rematch inside WWE’s most dangerous structure.

The match wasn’t anything big to note but it wasn’t terrible. Orton would win the WWE Championship off Cena via the punt, which is now banned in WWE (Orton teases it here and there). There were some nice spots in this match but again, like most modern-day Hell in a Cell matches, the cell was not used much.

Despite being two high-profile names, Orton and Cena’s match sits at no. 20 on the list. They also begin the string of back-to-back-back matches from the 2009 Hell in a Cell PPV.
