19) CM Punk (c) vs. The Undertaker – World Heavyweight Championship Match, WWE Hell in a Cell 2009

This was the second of three Hell in a Cell matches to take place at the 2009 PPV. Talk about overkill, right?

CM Punk came into this match as World Heavyweight Champion against The Undertaker, who is nearly invincible in Hell in a Cell matches.

This match was created following their bout at WWE Breaking Point. Undertaker made Punk submit to Hell’s Gate but SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long came out and said the move had been “banned” by Vickie Guerrero a while ago. The match then restarted and Punk locked in Anaconda Vice, leading to his victory. Undertaker never tapped out, though, despite the referee calling for the bell. This just sounds awful, doesn’t it?

As for their Hell in a Cell match, it was one of the shortest in the bout’s history. It also opened up the show, which had never happened before. Despite this, it was an okay match that saw Undertaker defeat Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship. This was also somehow the first time a championship ever changed hands in a match of this kind. It hadn’t in the first sixteen bouts.

Despite being big names, Punk and Undertaker’s match isn’t memorable. If you want to see them in action, go watch their great showing at WrestleMania 29, which was Punk’s final match at the show of shows.
