#2 – WrestleMania XXVIII: Undertaker vs Triple H

Quite possibly one of the best stories told in the ring with two of the best superstars of the Attitude Era in the Undertaker and Triple H, which was booked as “the End of an Era.” A repeat from their WrestleMania XVII match where Undertaker was able to beat Triple H where neither man was able to leave the ring on their own, both had stated their reasons to seek redemption against each other in a rematch.

There weren’t any high spots with anyone falling off the top of the cage, but it was used as a weapon. So were some steel chairs smashed against each other and the steel stairs were used in many ways – spine busters, power bombs and even a spot where the Undertaker applied the Hell’s Gate

The match featured what might have been the closest the fans were to believing the Undertaker’s WrestleMania streak was going to end was on Sweet Chin Music from special guest referee Shawn Michaels to set up a Pedigree from Triple H. There were a number of near pinfall moments from there, but the ending came when a tired Triple H couldn’t connect with the sledgehammer, only to be met by the Undertaker’s glare before delivering the last Tombstone Piledriver.

After the match, all three helped each other up and walked towards the ramp to look out to the crowd, the 20-0 graphic for the Undertaker’s streak displayed behind them, symbolized the true end of the era where these three WWE superstars reigned supreme. In addition to being one of the best matches, it only seemed perfect to have Jim Ross return to the announcing table to help call the match with Jerry Lawler and Michael Cole – a five-star match does deserve a five-star announce team.
