EVOLVE 49 Review: Results, Analysis and Grades; Johnny Gargano Main Events

WWN Live’s latest pay-per-view, EVOLVE 49, will take place tonight from La Boom in Woodside, Queens, NY. The show is set to feature a handful of matches with great future implications.

WWN has come into the spotlight recently due to their expanding relationship with WWE. The details of this unlikely alliance are still a mystery but we know there’s something—Sami Zayn will be making an appearance tonight at EVOLVE 49. However, it will be an off-screen in-ring promo. He’ll also be doing a meet-and-greet for fans. The same goes for EVOLVE 50 tomorrow night in Deer Park, NY.

There’s also the future of Johnny Gargano. WWE has used Gargano often on NXT. He won a match in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic and has competed in multiple matches on other episodes. Speculation of future use of the former Open the Freedom Gate Champion in NXT rose once WWN announced an “I Quit” match for him against Ethan Page at tonight’s EVOLVE 49 because if the former loses, he must leave the promotion. This could mean Gargano will make an official stay in NXT with former WWN talents Rich Swann and Biff Busick. They signed with NXT last month.

Other than Gargano and Zayn, there’s still plenty of other talent to see at EVOLVE 49. EVOLVE Champion Timothy Thatcher will be in action as he teams with TJ Perkins to face the team of Trent Baretta and Rocky Romero, who have been seen in NJPW and ROH. Thatcher was one of five wrestlers profiled in an article that appeared on WWE.com earlier in the week.

We’ll also see a match involving former MMA fighter Matt Riddle, who received a job in WWN with help from WWE.
