There’s no denying that the former “Intellectual Savior of the Masses” has a lot of potential to play a number of characters. Yet, it seems like the decision to have shift over time from his scholarly pulpit to becoming Macho Mandow just felt like an intellectual fall from grace.
Now there was a moment when he was stealing the show as a stunt double for The Miz, but that was only going to last so long and there wasn’t any reason to have him continue that shtick. But there’s no denying that his best time in the WWE main roster was wearing his robe to the ring and acting smarter than everyone else.
In many ways, the earliest Sandow on the main roster was a prototypical heel that could get the crowd riled up. He was a mixture of Lanny Poffo and Adrian Adonis – mostly because of the period where Sandow wore pink tights and purple pads. The momentum he did have in 2012 and 2013 led to having the Money in the Bank briefcase – which led to a loss against John Cena for the World Heavyweight Championship as part of a losing trend that started after winning the briefcase.
Similar to Rose, I like Sandow’s potential. Yet the best way WWE can save his career is to return to booking him as that savior and less like someone playing dress-up.
