Looking at the legacy that Heath Slater will leave behind at the end of his career can be summed up in one words – random.
When you look at Slater individually, he can be defined as a loudmouth southern rocker. But after the first season of NXT, he was placed into the Nexus group as a team of young stars wanting to take what is theirs – which goes against the traditional belief of “paying your dues.”
Slater had success in a team with Justin Gabriel, but that felt more like a random pairing. Slater in a group with others that were meant to be a dominating force that left a path of destruction on that infamous episode of Raw on June 2010. Looking at Slater in between guys like Barrett and Ezekiel Jackson made him seem like a red-headed bastard stepchild that didn’t seem to fit in.
However, what might have felt like the most random booking of any group in WWE history was the Three Man Band – a.k.a. 3MB – where Slater was teamed with Jinder Mahal and Drew Galloway. The trio attacking superstars seemed unique, but the rock band gimmick had an initial spark before dying fast like a band with just one hit song that they never follow-up on.
Oh, and there was also that run in 2012 where he regularly lost to a number of returning superstars that included Bob Backlund, Vader, Sycho Sid and even Lita.
