The Gobbledy Gooker
Survivor Series 1990 saw one of the legends of WWE debut (more on that later) but it also saw a debut on the opposite end of the spectrum, The Gobbledy Gooker.

A giant egg had appeared on WWF events in the weeks leading up to the event, nobody had a clue what would be inside but at Survivor Series we found out. As Mean Gene Okerlund stood next to the egg it began to crack. What would emerge? I don’t think anyone could have predicted how awful it could be, then it happened—a giant turkey.
Coming out to a resounding chorus of boos the Gooker was destined to fail from the off, quite what they were thinking is beyond me, but this was a bad gimmick during the era of bad gimmicks. The best part of the segment had to be Okerlund conducting an interview with the giant bird and apparently being able to understand it. After both men had a dance in the ring it was hard to see where this was meant to be heading. Thankfully the Gobbledy Gooker wasn’t around for long, disappearing a few months later. He would appear years later in the Gimmick Battle Royal at WrestleMania X7.
The saddest part of the story was the man inside the costume. Hector Guerrero, a member of the legendary Guerrero family, was a near 20 year veteran at the time and had performed to acclaim around the world. This gimmick was his only foray into the WWE and he was wasted under that ridiculous mask.
