The Shield

Survivor Series 2012 saw the debut of one of the most dominant factions in WWE history. On that night Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins made there first appearances as The Shield.

During the main event pitting WWE Champion CM Punk against John Cena and Ryback it looked like Ryback was about to win his first WWE Championship, but three men who had made their name in NXT had something to say about that. Coming through the crowd they attacked Ryback and power bombed him through the Spanish announce table. They then watched as Punk got the pin on Cena before leaving via the crowd. This lead to the idea that Punk had paid them off to help him get the win, despite everyone’s protests it was eventually revealed that they were in fact being paid off by the champion to interfere in his matches.

They had a long undefeated streak and at one point all three men held title gold, with Ambrose the United States Champion and Rollins and Reigns as the Tag Team Champions. They would face everyone on the roster and be dominant for the first year after their debut.

Eventually cracks would form and they would disband after Rollins aligned himself with The Authority and turned on his team mates. Going on to hold the WWE Championship Rollins would be the big success story coming out of the group, now we have Reigns and Ambrose looking like they could go head to head for the title that Rollins had to vacate due to injury.

Coming in as three unknown quantities, despite their success in NXT, they were one of the best things on WWE TV during their run together. All three men really are the future of the company and will go on to hold a lot of gold between them.
