The Rock
The first third generation star in WWE history, it was at Survivor Series 1996 that we saw the debut of The Rock, at the time known as Rocky Maivia. He was the fourth member of a team comprising Marc Mero, Jake Roberts and The Stalker who defeated Crush, Jerry Lawler, Hunter Hearst Helmsley and Goldust, with Maivia being the sole survivor in the traditional elimination match. Looking competitive against all four of his opponents it was somewhat of a coup for him to be the match winner, last eliminating Goldust.
Coming in with an impressive family background he was destined for the top right from the start. He’d go through various character changes before he would become “The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment”. Joining the Nation of Domination, going on to become the despicable Corporate Champion aligned with Mr McMahon, becoming one half of the greatest tag teams ever with Mick Foley in the Rock and Sock Connection and then bowing out to take up opportunities in Hollywood and beyond. Along the way he’d hold every major title, main event arguably the greatest WrestleMania ever at X7 with Steve Austin and become one of the biggest draws in wrestling history.
Now making sporadic appearances there’s always the rumors that he will return, usually to face whoever is the champion at the time. The Rock has been there and done it all, he’ll be back in WWE, maybe sooner than we think.
