The recent episode of Raw, Ric Flair’s late son Reid was brought up during the contract signing between Charlotte and Paige. Was Flair ever warned?

The ending of of Raw two nights ago featured Paige and Charlotte doing a contract signing to promote their match at WWE Survivor Series for the WWE Divas Championship. Many were surprised by these two headlining the show, but it went sour fast.

In the beginning of the segment, Charlotte brought up her late brother Reid, who died from a drug overdose in 2013. She got emotional talking about how she’s only here because of him.

Later in the segment, Paige said the following: “Your little baby brother didn’t have much fight in him, did he?” This led to Charlotte going on the attack immediately.

Well, the fallout from this situation has been ugly. Ric Flair’s ex-wife and Reid’s mother Elizabeth Fliehr criticized the angle, calling it “#lazy”, “#disgusting”, among other words.

Many assumed this angle was run by Flair and Charlotte. Unfortunately, it seems he was not notified ahead of time.

On the recent edition of the Nature Boy’s “WOOOOO! Nation with Ric Flair” podcast, Flair spoke about the angle, being reluctant on speaking about it at first.

"“Here’s the problem. I have an opinion but I’m afraid to voice it because I don’t want it to effect Ashley’s (Charlotte) career. I will just say that I know that Hunter, and Stephanie and Michael Hayes have her back. And, you know, I think, if anything, this could be considered negative, I don’t think she’s comfortable to say no to anything yet; she’s only been up there 3 months. It’s a pressure cooker and it’s a tough spot to be in. Even though she’s a champion, doesn’t mean she goes ‘Hey this is what I want to do and what I’m not going to do.’"

However, Flair would start to hint towards his feelings on the matter the more he spoke about it. Here’s some of the quotes from it.

"“It’s still new, it’s not even 3 years old. It’s something we deal with as a family on a daily basis.”“If I was a fan, I wouldn’t like it.”"

Here’s the most heart-breaking one of them all.

"“I never heard a word about it. I started crying when I was watching it. No one called me, and no one has called me today. That would indicate they assume it’s good."

This is very sad and unfortunate. How WWE couldn’t run this by Flair, who is signed with the company to a legends contract, is unfathomable. Those who felt no issue about WWE doing this before hand may change their minds after this.
