Why Sasha Banks Needs to Be Utilized Better by WWE
By Jay Sichler
“The Boss” Sasha Banks, has been invisible since her summer call up, that needs to change.
When the Divas Revolution began in the summer three of the top Divas in NXT joined the roster (Charlotte, Becky Lynch & Sasha Banks). For the last year these three women (along with Bayley) helped rejuvenate the women’s division in the WWE. Since the departures of Hall of Famers Lita and Trish Stratus and potentially future Hall of Famer, Mickie James, the women’s division in the company had been lackluster. The Four Horsewomen as their referred to put on not only some of the best women matches the company had seen in years but arguably some of the best bouts in general this year.
When the three got called up, it looked like we were finally going to get a Divas division that we could actually watch for the first time since 2006. However, since that time, the Divas division has focused around only three women: Nikki Bella, Paige and Charlotte. While these three aren’t bad wrestlers, the star power isn’t there for these three to dominate the division.

Nikki’s last tittle reign went with her only defending the title every four months it seems, and was done so the WWE could erase AJ Lee from the record books (Thanks to her marriage to CM Punk). Paige has talent but her consistently going from face to heel every few months is turning her into a female Big Show. Finally Charlotte has no identity. She uses the same Woo’s and finisher as her father (Ric Flair) there’s no originality when it comes to her.
WWE has been looking for their next franchise Diva since both Trish and Lita left the company in 2006. Sasha Banks is that Diva, whether the company wants to admit it or not. Banks does something that none of the other Divas do—she carries herself as a star. Sasha has a swagger and attitude that oozes stardom. She knows she the best and she carries herself like it. Her “Boss” character is perfect for her and she truly carries herself as the “Boss” of the Divas Division.
Over the last year, Sasha has by far been putting on some of the best matches in the company. Her match with Bayley at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn was probably the best women’s match in WWE since Trish and Mickie James met at WrestleMania 22. Sasha gets it, and her ring psychology is incredible. The way Sasha goes after a body part, and her trash talking abilities while doing so is reminiscent of an old school heel.
It’s not just me who see’s this, though—the WWE Universe wants her too. Over the last few weeks, the crowds at shows have chanted “We want Sasha”. The crowds haven’t been cheering “We want the Bellas” or “We want Charlotte.” The fact that crowds want her too shows how much of star she can be, and becoming.
Yet again this week on Raw, Sasha was nowhere to be seen. Instead we got a contract signing involving Paige and Charlotte. The segment felt flat, and the fact that it seems every other week Charlotte is crying on TV is really starting to get annoying. As much as I like Paige, she really shouldn’t be in this spot, Sasha should. Sasha is a trash talker and can back up everything she claims. If her and Charlotte were closing Raw this week, I guarantee the segment would’ve been a lot more memorable.
WWE needs to break away from their belief that Charlotte is the next big diva in the company, she’s not. Sasha Banks is the next top Diva in WWE. She has all the tools and the swagger to make her the next big star. Hopefully the “We want Sasha” chants will change to just “Sasha, Sasha” with the Boss dominating the Division for years to come.
