WWE Survivor Series 2015: Should Roman Reigns Turn Heel and Join the Authority?

With Survivor Series coming up and a tournament for the title, should we see a repeat of the 1998 Survivor Series and see a heel turn with Roman Reigns? Find out below.

The last time there was a tournament for the WWE (WWF at the time) championship at Survivor Series was in 1998. What we saw in that pay-per-view was the continuation of the Stone Cold Steve Austin-Mr. McMahon saga and in the end the turning and crowning of a new Champion in The Rock. After weeks of teasing that Mankind would be the corporate choice to be the next champion, in the end it was The Rock selling out the people to become The Corporate Champ setting up a feud with Austin that resulted in some memorable matches.

Today in the “PG Era” and with the tournament being a result of the injury to Seth Rollins things are much different, however there is one parallel in that the Authority needs someone to be their top heel and in-ring representative. Who better to take on that role than Roman Reigns? Here’s why I think it could actually happen.

More from WWE

A few weeks ago on Raw when they announced the start of the tournament Triple H gave Roman Reigns an offer of becoming the champion by joining the authority. Of course Reigns refused as they are continuing to push him as a face. However, The Authority desperately needs someone to fill in for the injured Seth Rollins as their “guy”. Who better than another member of The Shield? By waiting until Survivor Series for the turn and ultimate screw job of whoever he will face this will ensure that fans will really dislike his character. As a face, Roman Reigns has never really won the complete crowd over and this is the perfect opportunity to turn him into a legitimate monster heel.

If the WWE does go this route then the finals of the tournament must be Reigns vs Ambrose. Some have speculated that it would be Ambrose to turn heel, I think this would be a huge mistake. Ambrose is completely over with the crowd. If they were to try to turn Arbrose over Reigns I believe Ambrose would be the one that would still be cheered in that situation. Ambrose is a modern day Stone Cold Steve Austin mixed with a bit of Roddy Piper. To me he would be the perfect opponent to feud with Reigns on the road to WrestleMania, especially with all the past they could build on. Having the two current friends battle also would allow for the perfect setup for the turn of Reigns and could bring instant heat with an ending of Triple H, Stephanie, and Roman Reigns all laughing while holding the title.

Going this route would breathe new life into the WWE and would give potential to the return of “anything can happen” on Monday Night Raw. Reigns could bring up all the grief he received from the fans dating back to the Royal Rumble and how no matter how much he gave the fans they never showed him any respect. The Authority would once again have a strong heel in their camp and would provide the perfect heel for Dean Ambrose who should be set to be the company’s top face. At Survivor Series lets hope WWE breathes new life into the product.
